MINI FIREWORK DECORATIONS

Capture

For one firework you will need six chenille stems in the same

  • Chenille stems in red, white, and blue
  • Scissors
  • Crafts glue
  • Glitter in red, white, and blue
  • Thick sponge
  • Clear thread (optional)
  • 1. Cut the stems in half.2. Dip approximately 1/2 inch of both ends of each stem in crafts glue, then submerge tips in a small bowls of colored glitter. Lay the stems on a thick sponge to dry.

    3. Gather 11 stems together into a pile. Twist the 12th stem around the others. Bend and flare the stems to resemble a firework.

    4. Tie a length of thin clear thread onto the firework and hang (optional).

 

Star-Spangled Wavers:

  • Scissors
  • Pieces of red, white, and blue felt
  • Red, white, and blue ribbons (available at local craft stores)
  • Tacky glue
  • 3/8-inch dowel
  1. Cut a pair of 6-inch stars from red, white, or blue felt.
  2. Cut a slightly smaller pair (ours were 4 inches across) from a different color of felt, and an even smaller pair (ours were 3 inches across) from the third color.
  3. Use tacky glue to affix the stars to each other. Glue together the 2 sets of stars, sandwiching a 3/8-inch dowel between them.
  4. Allow the glue to dry, then finish the baton by tying a length of red, white, and blue ribbon around the dowel.

Paper Wind Streamer:

  • Empty oatmeal container, or similar cylindrical container
  • Blue kraft paper
  • White kraft paper
  • Star-shaped paper punch
  • Craft glue
  • Craft glue
  • Double-sided tape
  • Waxed twine
  • Red-and-white grosgrain ribbon
  • Red ribbon
  • White ribbon
  • Fine paper punch
  1. Remove the bottom of the container. Measure and cut the blue kraft paper to fit inside and outside the container. The paper should come right up to the top and bottom lip of the container. Lay the double-sided tape to the three edges of the paper on the wrong side, and affix it to the container’s interior.
  2. Using the star-shaped paper punch, create stars from the white kraft paper, and glue them onto the second piece of blue paper. Lay the double-sided tape to the three edges of the paper on the opposite side, and affix to the container’s exterior. With the fine paper punch, punch four holes at the north, south, east, and west points of the container’s top. Thread a piece of waxed twine through one hole and its opposite hole, and tie in place. Repeat for remaining holes.
  3. Cut lengths of the red and white ribbon to create streamers, and glue them at the bottom edge of the container. Lay double-sided tape all the way around the top and bottom edges of the container, and adhere the red-and-white grosgrain ribbon.
