My husband and I decided to open our own business last year and it’s been a labor of love ever since, let me tell you. I thought about it long and hard before I quit my job to start this company but you know, I don’t think I’ve ever been happier in my life than I am now. I’ve always been interested in editing but when we decided to start our own editing business from home I kind of thought we were crazy, to tell you the truth. But after we got the basement converted into a work space and went to ElectricCompaniesTexas.net to get our electricity rates down (we had more square footage to heat now!) and talked to an attorney and an accountant about the ramifications we were all set. I love getting to wake up in the morning and go to the basement to work and I especially love that Matt and I get to work together all day every day. I really missed him when he would go into the office and though I loved my old colleagues I really hated my job. We were most nervous, of course, about the financial implications of cutting off our dependable paychecks but so far this little business has been really good to us and I know that over time we’re going to really make some money if things keep up the way they are now. I like being my own bossand getting to say what projects we take on and which clients we work with and I feel like Matt is more content now that he’s not grinding away at his old corporate job. If we can keep making this work I feel like we’ve made exactly the right decision for our family and that we’re going to be happy in this line of work for a long, long time. At least, I hope that’s what happens! You never know where life is going to take you.
