Smash Cakes For Your Little One’s Special Birthday
The No.1 Cutout Cake As parents, we spend a great deal of time in planning the perfect birthday party for our kids. I know after choosing just the right location, decorations, party supplies and goodie bags all that’s really left is the cake. Now for me, the cake seems to take center stage. I want it decorated to perfection and to taste absolutely scrumptious! I also want my little one to “enjoy” having their own cake. The look on their face as they grab the first bite and it squishes between their tiny little fingers to the moment when it makes it to their anxiously awaiting little mouth is priceless. More and more parents today are making Smash Cakes. It’s a cake designed just for him or her. Beautifully decorated and ready for whatever destruction they can do to it. Let the picture taking begin!
Start off by checking out the Betty Crocker How to: Make a Smash Cake link. You can find some inspirational ideas for toppings. Cheerios what a great idea!
Here are just some of the delightful cake ideas they have came up with:
The No.1 Cutout Smash Cake recipe is very easy to make and requires few ingredients. They include a template that can be printed out to use as a guide for positioning the cake and cupcakes.
The Peas and Carrots Smash Cake is a really cute cake idea.
The Polka Dot Smash Cake also calls for very few ingredients.
The Sprinkles Smash Cake calls for few ingredients and has the number one right on it.
The Striped Mini Smash Cake gives a little something extra with the Orange coarse decorating sugar.
The Confetti Cake Stack is adorable! Who doesn’t love sprinkes!
The Watercolor Cake has a more elegant look. I love how the colors blend nicely.
Clicking on each of the links will give you more detailed instructions. For more of a complete list click the Smash Cakes & 1st Birthday Cakes link. You will see that the majority of the cakes require a minimum amount of ingredients. The instructions are simple to follow.
Ask any Mom and they will tell you that the things they do for their kids can sometimes be referred to as a “labor of love”. No one said it had to be difficult though! Thank goodness Betty Crocker knew that and passed along these easy ideas for you to try out. The recipes and templates are all FREE. I know that some of you are busy and think that you don’t have the time or the skills to do it. Let me just say it, YOU CAN! Follow the cake baking recipes and decorating ideas from the Betty Crocker Smash Cakes & 1st Birthday Cakes site page. There are also instructions on the cake decorating tool kits that can help you to achieve the look you are looking for.
Now after reading all the great recipe ideas, I have a couple more of my own. Why not make the Smash Cake and serve cupcakes decorated like the Birthday Boy/Girl’s special cake? That way each child would have their very own “special cake” too. You could also add more age appropriate toppings on the other kids.
Do you have any ideas to add? Feel free to leave a comment. It’s always great hearing advice and personal experiences from other Moms out there!
